Summary:

In the field of social work we are aware of the many layers of the human experience in society, including how poverty or a lack of resources can impact a person, family, or community. Research shows consistently that financial stress is a very common experience, but traditional mental health and financial resources operate separately and as a result may miss opportunities for personal insight around the connections between financial behavioral choices and mental health status. Come learn about the field of financial social work, which aims to bring personal finance into the therapy setting to acknowledge and address the relationship that financial stress can have to a person's mental health state and ability to reach their overall wellness goals. This presentation will give an entry level overview of financial social work and information for follow up if this is a professional development interest for any participants.  2 CEUs.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to define the term "Financial Social Work"
  2. Participants will be able to describe how to incorporate financial social work concepts and interventions into clinical work
  3. Participants will understand the requirements and process to get certified and will understand benefits that come with certification
