Eating Disorders and Psychotherapy: Appropriate Assessment, Treatment, and Referral
Presentation by Kayla Bettis-Webber, LCSW, LAC, ACS

Summary:
1.5 CEUs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Engage in proper assessment for clients struggling with disordered eating
  • Identify when and how to refer clients to a higher or more specialized level of care
  • Understand the anti-diet movement and Health At Every Size (HAES) model
  • Implement clinical "best practices" for this population

About the Presenter:

Kayla Bettis-Weber is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC). She graduated with her Master’s degree in Social Work in 2008 and was licensed in 2010. She began her career within a treatment center serving clients with severe mental illness and substance use disorders. She transitioned into an outpatient setting and expanded her practice to work with the many presentations of early childhood trauma, gaining expertise in specialty diagnoses such as dissociative disorders, eating disorders, and other complex trauma presentations. She has more than a decade of experience treating severe eating disorders requiring participation in multi-disciplinary teams and facilitating referrals to acute stabilization units or residential treatment programs. She has also worked with more mild cases, helping clients explore origins of body shame, utilizing feminist theory to unpack myths around diet culture and unrealistic beauty standards in this country.
