Summary:
You know there’s a connection between nutrition and mental health, but you don’t know what you need to implement or how to talk about it with clients. In this talk, Sydney discusses the critical relevance of nutrition for individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, and other mental health conditions. This talk begins with a brief introduction to the gut-brain connection, then explains the bottom lines of the latest research on how dietary choices influence mental health. Food for Thought includes strategies for how to effectively use
nutrition interventions with clients to support recovery and improved mental health outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Implement basic nutrition interventions to support therapeutic care
  • Understand the importance of good nutrition for mental health
  • Identify indicators of disordered eating

About the Speaker:
Sydney Greene is a Registered Dietitian and owner of the private practice, Greene Health. Sydney is also a freelance writer, speaker, and consultant to addiction treatment facilities. Her focus areas are nutrition for addiction recovery, disordered eating, and body image, as well as chronic digestive issues. She belongs to the International Federation of Eating Disorder Dietitians, The Academy of Eating Disorders, and serves as the Addictions Resource Professional for the Behavioral Health Nutrition Practice Group of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Who Can Attend this Event?
This event is free for active CSCSW. Non-members may attend for $45. Current social work students may attend for free after submitting proof of student status (copy of valid student id, current course schedule from registrar, etc).
