Summary:
Racial Trauma will be discussed from a historical and systematic perspective. Attendees will learn the epigenetics of racial trauma and will explore disparities that continue to cause emotional and behavioral trauma symptoms. Strategies for establishing trust within the clinical experience will be introduced. Attendees will identify and treat symptoms of racial trauma.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will learn the historical and current factors that contribute to racial trauma
  2. Attendees will learn how racial trauma is a chronic trauma that is different from post-traumatic stress disorder.
  3. Attendees will learn the therapeutic barriers that arise in therapy due to a lack of cultural sensitivity
  4. Attendees will learn how to identify and treat racial trauma

About the Speaker:
Candice R Dickensis a Counselor Education and Supervision PhD student at Saybrook University. She is a PESI faculty member, has spoken numerous times at the Psychotherapy Networker, NAADC Conference, Black Clinicians, Black Therapist Rocks, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors Conference, The Maryland Tuerk Conference, and Boston University.

Who Can Attend this Event?
This event is free for active CSCSW. Non-members may attend for $45. Current social work students may attend for free after submitting proof of student status (copy of valid student id, current course schedule from registrar, etc).
